Are You Secure?

You have a business complete with a website, which does nothing but boost your visibility to future clients.  Unfortunately, you are also more visible to cyber criminals. This opens the door to lots of problems. Here are 3 important ways to make sure your website is safe and secure.

1.     Use a Secure Web Host

Creating your own website is easier than ever. Sites like Wix and Squarespace make it simple and even fun to put together your website. Most of these have security measures included, however, some aren’t as strong in that area. Here are a few things you should check when choosing a Web Host.  1) Does it offer file backup services? 2) Do they keep current with all security updates? 3) Doe the host provide a Secure File Transfer Protocol (SFTP)?

2.    BACK UP YOUR WEBSITE!!

If a major security event occurs, a backup is critical to recovering your website. Keeping your website information and files on a hard drive will keep them protected and easily accessible in case you need them again. Schedule your backup to automatically happen daily or weekly; that way updates you make will be saved.

3.    Petition for a Web Application Firewall

A firewall is like a coffee filter for your website. It keeps the bad stuff OUT. It scrutinizes every bit of data that flows into your website to protect your information. It can also recognize spammers and those pesky bots that do nothing but search for the weak areas of websites. On top of that, hackers don’t stand a chance against a good Firewall.

We hate to tell you, but a website is not like a crockpot, you can’t just set the timer and forget it.    Maintenance on your website is so crucial to keep your information secure and your site safe for all that visit it!
